Mary J. Blige is set to launch her first fragrance "My Life" named after her 1994 "landmark" record of the same name. Blige will launch "My Life" under the Carol's Daughter brand, of which she is an investor and long time friend of the owner. Blige spoke with WWD and had this to say,
“I was crying out for help, because I was going through so much,” she said of the period around the time of the recording, speaking exclusively to WWD on the set of the ad shoot for her scent. “And four million women said, ‘Mary, we’re going through it, too, but you’re helping us by calling on us.’ From that day on, I began speaking truths about my life, and about their lives, and everything around us. So it’s a special tribute to us as women. My fans and I are smart now. We know we’re smart now, but we didn’t know it then. We know we’re beautiful now, we didn’t know it then. We’re educated now, we didn’t know it then. We’re soft, we’re edgy — we’re all those things. And I wanted this perfume to represent every female’s everyday life.”

Is one week with Anna Wintour worth $42,500??! In my most humble fashion obsessed opinion it's not - however one bidder who had on hand the handsome amount of just over $40k thought it was. For their sake I hope this internship includes more than coffee and copy machine trips. The auction benefiting Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights also includes an Alexander Wang Duffle Bag, a Proenza PS1, and a $1,000 Louboutin gift certificate.
Oprah who's also up for grabs isn't doing to bad herself with a bidder dishing out over $23,000 for a meet and great! Ms. DVF may have the best deal in terms of time with a month long internship closing out at $16,000.....$42,500(??)...sigh...at least it's for a good cause;-)
Kimora Lee received quite a bit of flack for her "Dare Me" perfume ad....primarily because it's obviously not her body on top that gorgeous head. Now Oh No They Didn't have done some research and found a dead ringer for the second half of Kimora's body. What's your take, is Daria on the bottom?
How do you wear the leather trend while avoiding overheating?? Some celebrities...namely Alicia Keys has taken up leather as their go-to textile of choice before leaving home. But leather is tricky - let's follow Coco Chanel's advice with a little adjustment and say "Always remove one piece of leather before leaving the house!"
Rashida Jones pulled 3 essential summer pieces from Theory's summer collection as part of the company's new initiative for charity. 10% of proceeds from any of Rashida's picks will be donated to "Peace First and Children Mending Hearts, two charities that focus on education and empowering at-risk children around the world." Rashida said “I’m delighted to be working with Theory on such a wonderful project that benefits two organizations so clearly dedicated to young people,”
So which pick is your favorite? The shirt dress, a summer staple is my personal favorite and not to mention I can use an updated blazer for summer!
Oprah makes an investment in the first lady Michelle Obama's fashion choices. WWD.com reported that after lady O saw Mrs. Obama wear a J. Crew cardigan on Jay Leno in 2008 she decided to purchase their stock. It is no secret that J. Crew's stock increased after the much loved exposure from Mrs. O. And according to Orpah, "...that investment was a very good decision." Why couldn't we all have seen that potential!??!
Liya Kebede's first foray into fashion with her line Lemlem (meaning "flourish" or "bloom" in Amharic) is proving to be quite a success. While Liya initially launched Lemlem as a children's line she is expanding the brand to include women's clothing at the behest of her shoppers. The Ethiopian based manufactured line is providing employment to local artisans while turning out beautifully constructed pieces made of sustainable products. Watch Liya and her model friends at her Lemlem photo shoot:
Naomi Campbell had a sit down interview with ABC News that turned into questions about her allegedly receiving a "blood diamond" from former Liberian president Charles Taylor. Naomi acted in good grace by refusing to answer and eventually said, "Thank you so much, good bye". On her way out unfortunately she shoved the camera and allegedly "smashed" it. See for yourself:

Brazilian model Emanuela de Paula looks uber fab as a "futuristic warrior" for Marie Claire's Brazil April 2010 cover. I must say this is a very fashion forward editorial for Marie Claire - and they scored with this one!
